Description:
The presentation will present an overview and brief history of the Office of the Ombudsman and its partner agencies. There will also be information on informal and formal justice in the UN context including how we receive and manage cases and the ways we work with our partners to solve problems, both individual and systemic. Other functions of the office such as mediation and training will also be covered.
About our Presenter:
Linda Schieber is a consulting Ombudsman for the United Nations Funds and Programmes. She is a retired staff member of the United Nations Development Programme where she managed a variety of information-related activities. She began her work as an Ombudsman as a volunteer on a panel serving agencies based in New York. In 2003, when the Office for the Funds and Programmes was established, she began working as a consultant, working mostly remotely from her home in Berkeley. A graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, she has taken advantage of continuing education in conflict resolution and mediation over the years.
