MICHAEL P. CARBONE will lead us in a roundtable discussion of some of the mistakes that we have made as mediators, and more importantly how we recovered from them. Drawing upon his own experience, the results of the survey of the membership that Jay Folberg recently conducted, and input from the group, Mike will help us to explore our own strengths and weaknesses as mediators, how we have developed our skills over the years, and learned from our experiences, both good and bad.

Mike has been practicing lawyer since 1967 and a commercial mediator since 1994, specializing in the resolution of business disputes. As a private mediator, he has mediated, arbitrated or acted as referee in cases involving breach of contract, estate and trust matters, partnership disputes, employment discrimination and termination, sexual harassment, sales of businesses, telecommunications, legal malpractice, the sale, leasing and financing of real estate, foreclosures, eminent domain, easements, and cotenancies. He is a mediator for the San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Contra Costa County Superior Courts and a member of the Mediation Panel of the California Court of Appeal, First Appellate District. He is a founding member of Real Estate Neutrals, an association of Bay Area real estate attorneys who serve as arbitrators and mediators of real estate disputes. He served as President of The Mediation Society for 2000-2001.
