Gary will report on the results of the first ever mini-conference on mediation research he convened as part of the ABA Dispute Resolution Section’s annual conference. Gary will moderate the renowned panelists’ discussion of evidence-based research for how mediation ought to be done, what we mediators do that actually works and some of the things we believe good mediators do but were proven wrong. He’ll discuss the history of mediation research and a summary of what we know about the effect of mediator interventions in all types of disputes based on real evidence. He will also discuss questions for future investigation into mediation practice such as: How best can empirical research help mediators become more effective at what they do? How can we foster more empirical research on mediation?n
